The Young Scottish Couple
A young Scottish lad and lassie were sitting on a low stone wall, holding hands, and just gazing out over the loch. For several minutes they sat silently, then finally the girl looked at the boy and said, "A penny for your thoughts, Angus."

"Well, uh, I was thinkin'. . .perhaps it's aboot time for a wee kiss."

The girl blushed, then leaned over and kissed him lightly on the cheek. Then he blushed.

Then the two turned once again to gaze out over the loch. After a while the girl spoke again.

"Another penny for your thoughts, Angus".

The young man knit his brow. "Well, now," he said, "my thoughts are a bit more serious this time."

"Really?" said the girl in a whisper, filled with anticipation.

"Aye," said the lad. "Din'na ye think it's aboot time ye paid me that first penny?"

As A taxi driver, I have had many Scothmen in my car over the years and I have never found them to be mean with money. On the contrary they are very generous people , not like the english ones I have picked up. To say the scotch people are mean is complete fiction.

I worked in the hotel industry for over 25 years and found that the Biggest tippers were the Americans though they were arrogant B's. The next biggest tippers were the Scots .. who were the friendliest people and the best mannered .
The worst were my fellow Englishmen who were as arrogant as the Americans and as mean as you could ever find.

We are not mean, just careful with money!
I reckon it is to do with our harsher climate, crops don't grow so plentifully as they do farther south so if you go back in time you'd find Scots wouldn't have as much to go around so they would have had to hang on to what they had.
Does that make any sense?
