The girl's name Pandora is of Greek origin, and its meaning is "all gifts" because all the Olympians gave her a gift.

According to greek mythology, Pandora was the name given to the first mortal woman, who was created beautiful and delightful by the gods, such that every man was attracted to her.

She is created by Hephaestus, Athena taught her needlework and weaving. Aphrodite "shed grace upon her head and cruel longing and cares that weary the limbs", Hermes gave her "a shameful mind and deceitful nature", Hermes also gave her the power of speech, putting in her "lies and crafty words", Athena then clothed her, Persuasion and the Charites adorned her with necklaces and other finery, the Horae adorned her with a garland crown.

She was given charge of a mysterious box and told not to open it. Being curious, she opened the box, and every kind of humankind's ills flew out, followed by the one counterpart, Hope.

Greek Mythology Pandora was the first woman created by the gods. One of the gifts she had to bear was a box containing the worlds evils.
Hence the don't open Pandora's box quote that surfaces from time to time.

Pandora was the name of a mythological female who had a box and was told never, ever to open it. Having an insatiable curiosity she did anyway and released all of the world's ills out (Pandora's Box). She also released one good item - called hope.

PANDORA
Gender: Feminine
Usage: Greek Mythology
Other Scripts: Πανδωρα (Ancient Greek)
Pronounced: pan-DOR-a (English)
Means "all gifts", derived from a combination of Greek παν (pan) "all" and δωρον (doron) "gift". In Greek mythology Pandora was the first mortal woman. Zeus gave her a jar containing all of the troubles and ills that mankind now knows, and told her not to open it. Unfortunately her curiosity got the best of her and she opened it, unleashing the evil spirits into the world.
