Actors don't have a portfolio. They have 8x10 photos (color or b&w these days, watever your agents tells you to get, sometimes both and in different poses to submit for different roles).

Models have a portfolio of really great photos of them that show off their personality and versatility. Not a ton, just a few that show you doing the type of work you hope to get. Different outfits at different places and times of day. They also have composite (or Zed) card usually with one headshot type photo and a handfull of other shots showing versatility all on the same card (a total of 5 shots). These are used the way an actor uses headshots.

Check out this site and look at the modeling and acting resource link at the top of the page: http://www.joeedelman.com/portfolio.shtml

This is just one example, you should check out more.

Marianne is right about all that stuff. keep the modeling and the acting seperate. Modeling portfolios require a lot more pictures in different styles.
Acting, you'll need an 8 by 10 photo for all your auditions. Show your personality through this pics, it's what gets you in the door. Make sure you look like yourself, and these days, I'd consider getting color photos for film and commercial but stick to black and white for theater purposes. Research your photographers, these things can be pricey so make sure you make it worth your while.
Good luck!
