Yes, and now that I am older, my kids tell me the same thing.

My parents did'nt understand the punk, metal and grunge I listened to (and still do), and I don't really understand Ludacris, Britney or 50 cent, but I try to keep an open mind and expose to my kids that there is artistic value in all forms of music like my parents did for me.

Only to a small degree. I embraced the music my parents listened to while I discovered new music on my own. As a result, I have a treasure trove of incredible music spanning 85 years to listen to.

Hell ya. I borrowed the ACDC Back in Black record from a friend and when my mom found it she took it. She refused to let me listen to it or wear my Guns N Roses t shirt because "people will think we are trailer trash and worship the devil". She did the same with my Alice cooper and Aerosmith tapes.
Years later I found out that the first concert she went to was KISS
we can joke about it now!!!

All the time. My parents like more of a classic Alternative (such as Stone Temple Pilots. Don't get me wrong, I love them too). But they absolutely hate Screamo. And they just come right out and tell me.

Yes.
I'm a big fan of System of a Down and once I was listening to the song Needles and my dad said, "Are those the guys that wear black?" I was like why do you hate my music!?

No. My mom was trying to fit in with the kids my sister and I hung out with. She's 52 and claims that '80's music is the best music ever made.

When I used to listen to rap music (back when Eminem was popular) they hated that. I told them that it was just a "era that i was going throuhg" Eventually they got over it and accepted it. Now I am full country though, so they have nothing to worry about.

sometimes, I mean it depends on what music it is!
If its rap than of course they always tell me "Turn that s*** off"
But If it's like pop from the 80's (Yes I listen to pop from the 80's) (pop from the 80's is the best kind of pop) Than they tell me "Turn it up" lol.
My parents are so weird! : )

Nope. I listen mostly to New Age, classical and instrumental (don't see the appeal in popular music), and since I have my own stereo and keep the sound isolated in my room where they can't hear it, nobody minds very much.
