I think that people are taking this "getting-offended" thing way too serious over there. too much pride in what they believe? I dont know. They have to realize that some people are not Islamic and may not know anything about the religion.
Seriously, it was not her intent to offend anyone.
If it happened in the US and the Islamic community had gotten offended by it, I think the most she would have had to do was explain herself and maybe a public apology.

well news this morning here to oz says she has been sentenced to 15 days imprisonment and then deportation back to UK. As the teacher has served five days already that leaves just 10 more. And then I gather the lady will be put on a plane?
The UK needs to get her out of jail and out of the Sudan today - the risk factors are too high too allow her to remain.
This is a bad indictment against the Sudanese and the lack of temperance that apparently can rule. If I was the teacher I'd be glad to leave and then id sell my story worldwide. Regarding the remaining English in the Sudan are they safe or has it escalated against all English speaking people over there?
I hope she is safe and being treated decently.

Whatever Red Chrome... it was the children in the class who voted to name the bear Mohammad in the first place. I'm sure Gillian knew enough about the Islamic religion to be respectful of Mohammad but probably didn't have the foresight to expect this bizarre situation to occur. Who would have? The is another sick example of extreme Muslims showing how out of touch they are with reality. I guess the next logical step in the mind of a Muslim extremist would be to strap a bomb to themselves and start targeting the "Build A Bear" workshops to prevent this from occurring again!

I think it's ridiculous and dumb. The same kind of people who get mad over cartoons portraying them in a bad light. It's a bunch of nonsense, and I guess something always has to rile them up over the stupidest little things. They have other shite to worry about besides petty things like Teddies named Mohammed. They should've just named it "Mo" or "Hammy."
And no, she wouldn't get prison time for naming the Teddy bear, because unlike other countries, we (USA) still have free will, and the Bill of Rights.

Muhammad is the most popular name in the world.... therefore name a teddy bear Muhammad shouldn't matter much. It goes to show how religious zealots are off their rocker... here or there.

I think that if she can get back to the "normal world," she should be able to get a lucrative endorsement deal with Vermont Teddy Bears!

Well, I know.... but if we reside in another country we have to be subject to their laws however stupid they may sound to us. If you don't like it there, don't go there. Don't live there. I wouldn't like it there so I stay here in this country where I belong and I don't go there.
I have no sympathy for the woman. She's lived there for years and so must have known how sacred the name of "Mohamed" is for them. She must know that they are fanatic about their beliefs.
