For example, did he say, "The sun is called Sol"?
Or did you misunderstand the word? Maybe he said, "soul" or "salute"?

well in Spanish it means sun, and likewise, in Icelandic "glosoli" means glowing soul or glowing sun. So to sum it all up, like everyone has already said, it means sun
