Why is there so much stealing and crime?

In the last few years I've had my home robbed twice, four bicycles stolen (all were locked), 3 laptops stolen, and many small items.

I'd say that times are getting tougher, and the drug scene combined with the lack of employment opportunities and the increase in taxes and living expenses is causing people to take the "easy money" route to make ends meet or to get enough for a quick fix.
It could also be that your in or near a high drug use area.
Best advice, Move if you can.. Or set up security cameras around your property. They are pretty affordable now, and relatively easy to install.

Because there are so many criminals and stuff to steal.

Also, because the population is increasing, therefor the amount of criminals will increase, thus stealing, theft, etc... will increase.

Also, I'd recommend not being an easy target. If you don't want it stolen, don't leave it unattended for wandering eyes. Locked or not. Put it inside somewhere or get a better lock and maybe an alarm.

As far as laptops go, where was your laptop that it was stolen? Never ever set it down, always keep it on your person.

Before Giuliani was mayor of NYC, crime and graffiti were at an all time high. He brought in tougher sentences for those convicted. The liberals went nuts crying about how unfair it was and how it wouldn't work. Well, guess what? It worked, tougher sentences brought the crime rate down and the city really cleaned up and put on a new, fresh face. Florida has adopted a law allowing home owners to shoot thieves. I don't know about the rest of the state, but crime is down in my area.

Poverty!

When it becomes almost impossible for people to make their bare necessities, there will be an increase in thefts!

So sad!
