Santa is not real because here's why. when i was five i would sit behind the christmas tree because i thought i could steal all of his present in his sack. I was sitting there like an idiot and eventually i was up untill 5am. So then i went back upstairs and put post it notes all over my sister that said santa's dead. When I confronted my mom about this when I was younger, she basically said the whole santa riding the sleigh pulled by reindeer and the elves making the toys at the north pole is not true, but Saint Nicholas was a man that would give presents to children when he lived and miracles still happen to this day when it comes to the Christmas spirit, so in a way he is and in a way he isn't.
You can read about Saint Nicholas here if you would like to know more about him.

The Santa Claus tradition comes from Nicholas Claus the Bishop of Ulm in Germany hundreds of years ago. This real person was also mixed as time went by with the ancient psuedo-pagan mythical figure of Father Christmas. Nicholas of Ulm used to pass out gifts to poor kids at Christmas from a horse drawn sleigh. He was cannonized (made a saint)after his death by the Catholic church.
Santa Claus is real because he was already declared a saint. Therefore, if he is a saint, he can perform miracles such as giving gifts to a mass number of good children

Pre-modern representations of the gift-giver from church history and folklore merged with the British character Father Christmas to create the character known to Britons and Americans as Santa Claus. Father Christmas dates back at least as far as the 17th century in Britain, and pictures of him survive from that era, portraying him as a well-nourished bearded man dressed in a long, green, fur-lined robe. He typified the spirit of good cheer at Christmas. The name Santa Claus is derived from the Dutch name for the character based on St. Nicholas. He is also known there by the name of Sint Nicolaas which explains the use of the two fairly dissimilar names Santa Claus and Saint Nicholas or St. Nick.
Saint Nicholas of Myra is the primary inspiration for the Christian figure of Santa Claus. He was a 4th century Christian bishop of Myra in Lycia, a province of the Byzantine Anatolia, now in Turkey. Nicholas was famous for his generous gifts to the poor, in particular presenting the three impoverished daughters of a pious Christian with dowries so that they would not have to become prostitutes. He was very religious from an early age and devoted his life entirely to Christianity.

As real as Coca Cola which invented the jolly old fool.
The original was probably a shamanic legend associated in Northern Lapland with the ingestion of the vision bestowing plant Amanita Muscaria or Fly agaric(that's not the name of an airline) whereby the Red and White mushroom is fed to reindeers whose urine is drank by the Shaman. The Spirit then enters him through the fontanel and comes down the chimney of his central channel to bestow gifts and take him on a flying trip to the astral dimensions from where s/he can bestow gifts of new knowledge to the people. The reindeers also, presumably, get high and their noses turn red from the toxins. I dunno what this has to do with Christmas tho...........
