I'm only in year 10 at the moment, but I found out that at the Sixth Form that I would like to go to, you are not allowed to dress casual, so therefore formal..

The thing is, I'm not exactly sure what I would wear, I don't want to look like I'm going to a dinner party, but a little help (or a lot) would be appreciated.

For 10 points I will be looking for someone who can include links as well as text!

Thanks in advance

Alex

NO JEANS ALLOWED!

I also don't want to look gay - no problem with it, it's just not for school

I like to plan in advance :)
I come from a bad area, not too good of an income, yet the sixth form is quite the opposite.

OK - When I say not too formal, I'm not scared of wearing pants, I wear them all the time, I just don't want to be suited up fully

I Go To A Sixth From Which Is Formal So.....
The Guys At My Sixth Form Wear
Shirts...any colour- some from Primark---> if you look around at primark you may find something. If you want say an expensive outfit...For say once a month you could try debenhams
www.primark.co.uk
www.debenhams.com
The Guys at my school all have to where black trousers and black shoes both again can be found at the above shops.
They mostly wear
Grey, Black, Brown,White Shirts
OR strippy shirts...which can be found in next
www.next.co.uk
You'll be fine don't worry about it just yet, when you go up their for an open day you'll see what they wear and get an idea from that.
Good luck

If you have to dress formal but don't want to look too formal why not wear black jeans that have the appearence of trousers a shirt a tie and a v or round neck block color sweater or tank top or wear a shirt slightly unbuttoned with a velvet or cord blazer and all black lace up pumps
try the link below for an idea of how to look formal with out being too formal

Theyre less lenient on boys in 6th form, I'm afraid to so its most likely they'll make you wear a trouser suit, I guess you dont need to go as far as wearing a tailored jacket, a tie and cufflinks with shiney shoes but you know what I mean. You're most likely being told to wear formal dress to train you for the next 40-50 years of your working life.

why are you worrying about this now, youre in year 10.. theres a sixth form down my road that wears suits... you could just wear a shirt, jumper and trousers with black trainers. most people at my sixth form do that, even though we have a uniform..

I'd say wear something like this:
Loose casual trousers like cords in a dark colour, i suggest brown:
http://www.debenhams.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_10001_10001_60880_452645_-1
Add a belt just to make them look a bit more interesting:

Then a button up shirt, roll up the sleeves and leave the top button open:

And a plain sweater:

As for shoes if you can get away with it wear casual shoes, not trainers you'd wear for sports but like converse or other casual shoes. If not just get some plain lace up shoes.
If you haven't got much cash to spare invest in the trousers and shoes and just gradually build up on the shirts and sweaters, try places like Tkmaxx and primark for cheap tops.
Don't panic about 6th form, you've got a while to go yet. =]
