It's an absolute joke, and no wonder so many people have a negative attitude towards Islam when they hear about things like this.

I feel sorry for the woman, but she's a teacher in a fairly conservative Muslim country. She should have been aware of the cultural situation that she was in -- like we should all be when we go to a country different from our own. Do I think that it's a human rights abuse? Sure, but the woman knew where she was and what she was doing. Besides, we have bigger things to get upset about -- like Darfur.
That said, she'll serve her 10 remaining days in jail, be deported to the UK, sign a book deal and make a tidy sum during her 15 minutes of fame.

Believe me, deported is good. There is a group of zealots howling for her execution.
You'd think with civil war, extreme poverty and the genocide in Darfur, Sudand would have more to focus on than the name of a teddy bear.

before someone goes to another country they should know and understand the culture. this is a shame and hopefully will be resolved with just deportation but the fact remains when you work or travel abroad you need to understand where you are going to be and how people live and react towards others. what would have happened if she had allowed the class to name the bear Jesus Christ? what would the reaction have been in a 3rd world christian nation? i am confident not as extreme but people would be outraged if a Muslim teacher allowed the class to name the bear Jesus. much the same as a Muslim nation being upset with a Christian teacher allowing the bear to be name Muhammad.

In a country where you can be charged with 'inciting hatred' and 'blasphemy' for allowing your class to name their teddy bear after a boy in the class, i'd gladly be deported.
I can't believe they wanted to lash a 54 year old woman who has dedicated her life to education kids in a third world country and have the gall to charge her with inciting hatred. Committing violence on the non-violent is the height of evil.

Overreaction by people in a country with little education.
And they just deported someone who was trying to educate their children.

It tells me the whole muslim culture is screwed up. The teacher did not even name the teddy bear. The muslim students picked the name.

I have travled the world and understand the culture..
1st off, the teacher did nothing wrong..it was the child who insulted islam.... by naming his teddy.
2nd, if a family member of mine is ever killed... be aware of a potentially lethal response to those who do it.
3rd... dont most already realize that WWIII will be islam versus other? its kind been obvious for decades.

It just shows some of the ridiculous rules governing Islam. It is a very common name just as Jesus is to westerners particularly the latin quarter.I feel very sorry for the poor lady who went there to help to teach children and this is her reward.
