I've been raising and breeding goats for a little under 5 years and we have a 3 year old boer/neubain hybrid that started limping a couple days ago, but now she can't even walk on it.

She doesn't like anyone touching it and will do just about anything to get away when we try. Before this she was sickly but we just wormed her and her iron level is fine. She is a little underweight from being sick but is putting it back on nicely but we can't figure out what is wrong with her hoof. Please help!

If her hoof is overgrown this could be the problem. Goats start to rock back on thier heels if their hooves start to get overgrown and they limp. They also start to rock back after being pregnant. Sometimes the weight of the babies is too much and their tendons weaken. This also happens frequently with pregnant does if their feet are cut wrong -even if it's only a little bit off. She could also have foot rot. I know it sounds wierd and gross, but if her foot smells really bad this could be it. It could also be foot rot or another kind of infection near the bottom of her foot if it feels hot to the touch. I would have someone help you hold her while you look at her hoof. If you have been cutting them on a regular basis you would know what her normal healthy hoof looks like. If it doesn't look right, call the vet. If you think her hoof just needs to be cut (and you know what your doing) then cut it. If you have never cut a goats foot before, DON'T CUT HER HOOVES. Trust me, you can do more damage to her foot than you think. It's not that easy to get the cut right if you have never done it. If you cut them wrong, it will hurt her and make everything worse. Talk to someone who has cut goats' feet before. I'm not trying to be mean and I'm sure if you have had goats for 5 years, you know how to do this and you think I'm a jackass for lecturing you, but I have seen many goats with messed up feet because someone cut them wrong or didn't cut them at all. If you have never cut goats' feet before, than you should learn from someone who knows what they're doing. Than next time you can do it yourself and won't have to call the vet. You might want to call the vet anyway to make sure everything is O.K. with her and that she's not sick again or something else is happening with her. It sounds like you care alot about your goat and I hope everything works out O.K. Good luck!

I would have thought that after 5 years you would have some idea of what was wrong with her, anyone with 3 years experience is a so called expert, take the animal to a vet.

If you think this answer is a rough, just think about the abuse animals have to go through because called pet lovers will not their sick animals to a vet.

As these animals are cloven hoofed a farrier is absolutely no use at all.

My cousin had the same problem, It ended up that all that was wrong was that he had a rock in his foot. It also might be a sore from being sick, you know like a pain, or It could be from not eating right and parts of his body are being affected by it. Or you never know, he might have broke his leg! You might just need to call the vet, It's never wrong to ask for help!
lol, I hope you figure out the problem. Have a great day!

Has she had her hooves trimmed recently? Could be foot rot, you can treat it with Coppertox. Possibly a symptom of CAE (if you've raised goats, you should know what this is), has your herd been tested?
