Ok some specifications include..

try getting a duo processor with a speed above 1.2 Ghz. I personally recommended a 2.0 or 2.2 GHz duo core processor.

Also since you are downloading music and pics a 160 gb hard drive is a good idea. I recommend a 200 -250 gb. It really depends on how many songs you tend to download. If its a lot then go for my recommended number.

You want 1 gb at least in terms of memory. 2gb is not needed but it wouldn't hurt. (only get this if it fits your budget.)

And everything else that comes standard with laptops, including dvd/cd player, windows XP, Office 2007, it is pretty easy to use and looks very nice(i have it), since you do work on it. Also video/graphics card is not really important as it is mostly used for games.

Like most other people above me said, try going on http://www1.ap.dell.com/content/products/category.aspx/notebooks?c=au&cs=audhs1&l=en&s=dhsand play around with the laptops until you find a good one for a good price. You can also try HP (their laptops look amazing)

Look for at least 1.5 Ghz of RAM, a 70GB Hard Drive, and 2 USB Ports. Get a Dell or an HP
