I'm doing debating in school, and my team is the affirmative for 'Is television better than books?' I think books are better than TV, but my teacher knows me and my friends are nerds, so she gave us this topic. So we have to do this. Sigh. Any help please?

compare the amount of content in a book to any movie based on the book. There are a significant amount of details in the book, where as movies and television have time constraints. Books are definitely better.

One can faster gain knowledge through tv then books but only if the right programs are watched.

If you watch a 30min show on how paper is made, you understand the general idea. You may have to read several books to understand the full concept. Yes, you may have a better understanding on how it works in details but it has taken a few days or weeks to read all the books. This does not include the large amounts of time need to asorbe all the information into the brain.

Hope that works.

Depends, authors of a book usually have a more correct view of whatever they're writing about. They could be writing an auto-biography, biography, science, etc. with a lot of detail. TV/Movies can be based on the same topic and be almost detailed the same exact way, but then at the same time, you also have a visual of what you are learning about, while in a book, you have to basically "paint a picture" in your head of whats going on. Though, through reading books, you could open up your mind and imagine things past the average mind can think of. So to wrap it up, from my prospective, I think TV is better.

Here is a thought senior citizens like to divide equal time to both. School age should devote more to books. After all our future and yours depends on you. The solutions won't be on TV they will be in the classroom, or the science lab or in your imagination and new books will be written by the so called nerds.
Hooray for the nerds!

Actually, my husband and I have this debate about once a year. I like books, because I can let the author's description evolve into the picture that my brain creates. My husband likes tv (and movies) because he likes to see how someone else (the director) has interpreted what the author has written. Sometimes, it's a good thing to look at things through someone else's eyes, and to allow yourself to enjoy someone else's art form.

Argue the fact that television is a better baby sitter. You could also say that television is immediate, it keeps you thinking about what's going on, sharpening your mind because you are every constantly thinking. However, I agree with you, books are so much better than television.

Books make your grammar, reading level, spelling, vocabulary, and generally are more educational than T.V.

Man, you drew the short straw didn't you. Try to emulate Stephen Colbert.

They don't call it the boob tube for nothing.
