Actually i'm more likely to say that i'd rather there be anti-alcohol ads on television - something along the lines of "Alcohol harms you and others around you, violently".
I'd much rather spend my time with a heavy smoker than a heavy drinker.

Cigarettes containin over 4,000 deadly chemicals and the addictive nicotine. Evenyone shouls be encouraged not to smoke. Second hand smoke can cause diseases like asthma (or however you spell it) and, sometimes, it can even cause DEATH. Those adds are right to say whatever they can to make people stop smoking! It is horrible for the smoker and everyone around them. Ad's can never go too far when trying to prevent smoking. And no matter how long you smoke or how many cigarettes you smoke, there is still second hand smoke flowing around and you are being damaged by the smoke. Even if it's just a second, smoke can get out and into the lungs of other people. And smoke doesn't have a shape so, it CAN fit through cracks and go through to other rooms. It can even get out into the hall and float around in there, and, ultimately, get into other room.
Now that we straaigtened THAT out....

Yup, it is the governments way of singleing out a portion of the population, and getting ordinary citizens to agree to taxing that specific group to death. Just wait until alchohol is targeted. I'll bet all these anti-smoke people won't like that much. If they are so concerned with second hand smoke, and smokers are treated as the equals to murderers, why doesn't the government just outlaw smoking? The American public is so gullible, they condone abortions, which is the murdering of the most helpless and innocent, but can't condone smoking. I've lost all faith in the American public. Stop and think about what you are putting into the air everytime you start your car. Are we gonna tax drivers to death? I'll bet I could sit in a closed garage with a smoker and live a hek of a lot longer than I would if I sat in a garage with someone who had their engine running. ;-)

They do go a little over the top but they just want you to stop if you do. People need to know that all drugs do is kill people (not all at once though, it would have to be over periods of time) people just need to get it through their heads that drugs wont help you and if you do drugs then you should stop before you die before your time. And also even if they do make it illegal it wont go away, people can smoke secretly just like they do with marijuana
Just here to help (if this offended you or someone else in any way im sorry)

No I don't think they're going to far! I detest cigarettes with a passion.
I grew up in a home where everyone smoked. My two parents, and 5 older siblings, who later on brought their wives and husbands, who also smoked. I actually learned to hold my breath, and breathe as little as possible, so I wouldn't have to smell that disgusting poison that made me sick.
I live in Greece right now where it seems like almost everyone smokes, and let me tell you, it drives me insane. I can't stand cigarette smoke. It makes me sick. I get nauseous, and dizzy, and since I got pregnant it's gotten even worse. The people that live below us smoke, and believe it or not, the smoke actually finds its way to our apartment. You may think I'm exaggerating, but it's true.
Everytime I go out I have to take someone's cigarette smoke in my face. At restaurants, there's always someone who 'll sit by our table, and carelessly blow smoke our way, not even caring about our baby sittling right there.
My dad died of lung cancer last year, and it was because he'd been smoking 2 packs a day since he was a kid. And did that make my brothers and sisters quit? No they smoke now more than ever.
Have you taken a look at what's inside cigarettes? Just take a pack and read it. And then tell me if you want little or a lot of that poison blown your way or your children's.
I'm almost starting to become racist against smokers, and this coming from a person whose whole family smokes. And I do love them to death, and always will. It just makes me sick that I have to breathe in any of that poison, because somebody chooses to smoke.
Enough is enough. Cigarettes should become illegal, and taken off the market. People would still smoke illegally, but only in private. Not out in the open, not even in their own apartment. If they don't care about what cigarettes are doing to their bodies, they shouldn't poison the rest of the world too.
I agree with what you said about them not going away like other illegal drugs, but something needs to be done. Cigarette companies should be forced to take out the harmful ingredients. They stick a warning sign on the pack, therefore iforming the buyer of how harfmul cigarettes are, and in that way they're actually protecting themselves from being sued. How smart!
You may think I'm a little harsh, but cigarettes are deadly. And I'm sick of seeing kids still taking up smoking, after all we know about them.

Second hand smoke is VERY bad, worse then if a person were to just smoke the cigarette themselves. Cigarette smoke can cause asthma and other breathing problems in children. It is very dangerous, and I dont think the anti-tobacco ads are going to far. People need to realize what they are doing and how they are harming themselves and other people.

Not really an oxymoron but I guess you could call them hypocrites slightly. However smoking is harmful and the smoke can harm others so i guess if its in a really enclosed space then you're harming other people's freedom. Although if the war on tobacco is won, alcohol is probably next

It's incredibly rude and gross to use tobacco products and tobacco users don't realize this or don't care. These days if someone asks me, "Hey, mind if I smoke?" I say, "Sure if you don't mind if I FART".
At least the (U.S.A.) has come to terms with what tobacco use really is. It's just too bad that it took hundreds of years, What it IS, is SICKENING AND PATHETIC..
I think they are going too far, but since I'm biased in terms of not being in favor of tobacco use at all, I'm glad they're going too far.
I don't want to kiss someone whose breath tastes like an ash tray, smell their stinky clothes, deal withe their pathetic psychological dependence on cigarettes, have smoke blown in my face, get lung cancer due to their second hand smoke, or accidentally stick my hands in their tobacco spit goo that they spit into cup spittoons on in the trash or sink (nasty)
Tobacco is a toxic plant (weed), meaning that if you chew on it long enough, eventually you'll get a hole in your mouth, lip cancer, oral cancer, gross dental decay, ulcers, etc.. If you smoke it you get heart disease, premature aging, and lung disease, emphysema, etc.
By comparison, THESE TYPES OF THINGS WILL NEVER HAPPEN IF YOU CHEW ON SPINACH or MINT.
Why it is that people ilke to destroy themselves, I'll never understand.
On the other hand, that being said about tobacco, I don't see anyone with such aggressive campaigns against the cell phone, food and pharmaceutical industries. These industries produce toxic products too that people consume in droves.

I think that they go too far, but maybe it does help some people. All of the smokers that I have known, including myself, want to quit, but the addiction makes it EXTREMELY difficult (the nicotine replacement therapies do not help). If they care soooo much, they should send me some coupons or something that will help quitting more efficient and less costly and ineffective.
