Hey,
I just took a test on this and i got a 97% on it. So oxygen is a Ionic bond. It's charge is negative and hydrogens' charge is a positive when the combine they form a covalent bond. Ionic meaning 0ne (1). I am is Honors Chemistry.

Oxygen gas or O2, since it is two atoms of a non-metal in a molecule would be considered a covalent bond, the term ionic bond usually refers to the bond between a non-metal and a metal.

It's depended on its opponent material.
Against Cl, Oxygen is covalent.
Against F, Oxygen is positive ion.
Against H, Oxygen is negative ion.
