My mate at school recently bought an old beaten guitar but a week later he brought it back into school with the front covered in newspaper cuttings with pictures on top of that and seriously it looked AMAZING. I've also got a beaten up guitar and I wanted to decorate it the same way my mate did his. I asked him how he got the newspaper to stick and go really hard but he was really vague in saying he used "laquer and glue" can anyone tell me what this means and also if you have any tips on decorating it a different way much appreciated.

Use what ever design you want too. and glue them on with elmers glue for that matter. Then take your guitar down to a local auto body shop and have them spray clear coat finish for a few bucks charged. It will come out nice and shiny.

Both 1 and 2 offer valid suggestions. I'll just add my 2 cents.

First of all what effect did the process your friend use; have on the "Pics"?

I suspect a decent coat of clear lacquer alone would GLUE the pics in place; then more coats to cover.

No offense but I probably wouldn't strictly COPY anothers idea.

I painted a couple in acrylics; but you may not be able? I did one for a young lady; long ago that was vines; flowers; and butterflies. I've also airbrushed a couple.

Another issue certainly is the assumed or real value of the instrument to begin with; and the clear coat effect on resonance etc.

Glue... I would suggest a 2 part epoxy, you can get it at a hardware store. after it is dry then apply a spray polyurethane (clear coat) to seal the whole thing so that it stays.

Look for decoupage in your hobby store. It's like elmer's glue, but you coat the bottom and top of the newspaper with it for really cool results.

Be aware it can change the sound of the instrument.
