This could be said for anyone, but I've noticed some people specifically get freaked when someone of thier race is dating a BLACK person.

My Puerto Rican friend said her sister was disowned for becoming enganged to a Black guy. What's that about?

Racism.

Some people are just racist. I wouldn't have a problem with race as much as I would have a problem with the qualities of the person inside the skin.

Parents have expectations that their children are going to aspire to a status in life greater than the parent did, at least I do. I want my kids to have a better life than I had, and my life doesn't suck. When you see the child get seriously involved with someone (with no foreseeable economic future) or some activity (booze/drugs/crime) that in your opinion isn't conducive to them achieving your expectations - you flip out. Not saying this is the case here.

In my humble opinion we should mix all the races together - in a few generations there will be no race, and maybe we will all look like Derek Jetter or Halley Barry :)

Just plain old prejudism, racism, and old ideas and stereotypes that won't die.

I think the black community can also be rather insular sometimes such that culturally, they are more different / distinct, and so their mixing with some of the other races is not as easy.

The predominance of blacks in the jail system also leads to stereotypes and I'm not even going to TOUCH that question as I know the many problems with racial profiling that contribute to making the prison population what it is.

Lack of education is also a big problem and that goes for all sides of the equation.

Because black people are seen as the lowest race. I can't count the number of times I've heard people of other cultures say that they wouldn't mind if their daughter married a white man, but a black man? Don't even think about it.

I wish I knew why so many people hated black people. I think it's really stupid. I think it's even more stupid that people think racism doesn't exist anymore.

This site is proof that racism against blacks is at an all-time high.

It's hard to imagine, but civil rights even here in the states is fairly new. Slavery is old news, but segregation is still fresh in the minds of our society.

"by the 1970s, support for formal legal segregation had dissolved. Formal racial discrimination was illegal in school systems, businesses, American military and government. Separate bathrooms, water fountains and schools all disappeared and the civil rights movement had the public's support"

That was 37 years ago. Kinda sad huh?

And just because laws change people don't .

White Man+ White Woman= White Baby
Black Man+ Black Woman= Black Baby
Puetro Rican Man+ Puetro Rican Woman= Puetro Rican Baby.
Black Man+ White Woman= controversy.

People are still living in their ancestors shoes and putting down other races because they aren't the same. It's not fair one bit. Blacks are discriminated against more because lots of people think they are spiteful, violent people. Definitely not true.

Yeah, wish it all would disappear, but some people stick to their beliefs or whatever. I don't find it a problem. The only time I find problems is when people from certain race complain about it when they're doing the exact same thing. Other than that, I don't mind. It's just what some "cultures" believe probably. :(

Unfortuantely Racism its still a fact of life and it is unacceptable! A Japanese woman who I had a class with had a daughter with a black man and their family tries to hide the kid. Horrible isn't it?

Puerto Rican's are very strict on dating and who they marry. It's not so much a racist thing its more about family and protecting their culture. It might seem wrong to us but we have to realize that we come from a very diverse country that is more tollerent of and accepting of other cultures.

Because they are a close minded uneducated backwood racist. Otherwise they would realize you should judge people by their deeds not their color. Yahoo is very sad to allow so much horribly racist things on here.
