Limewire itself is not illegal. Sharing files, such as music files protected by copyright, without the owner's permission is the part that's illegal. It does not matter if you charge money for the music or not. Redistributing illegal copies is a crime. I saw just a few weeks ago in the news some woman was dealt a hefty fine for file sharing.

Personally, I think the record producers are greedy and are getting what they deserve by seeing a decrease in CD sales due to online pirating. Had they chosen to meet the demands of the consumer market, they would not have had to worry about file sharing in the first place. But they ignored instead, lost a great deal of revenue, and then used their high-priced lawyers to sue innocent people like you and me to scare people away from file sharing. It didn't work, so they were forced to catch up with 21st century technology. Now they charge for downloads and probably make more money from that than from CD sales. CDs are for hardcore fans or people still living behind the times.

But don't think you cannot get popped for it. Anyone still can. Those record producers are ruthless. As far as I'm concerned they can all rott in hell along with the RIAA and the FCC.

Limewire is a very gray areas. Chances are more likely that downloading any copyrighted content is illegal. But to be quite honest, so many people on the internet do it, I don't think the RIAA is going to go after you for downloading a song or two, provided you don't sell it. Besides, it's better than supporting crap like the iTunes store.

Lime Wire is NOT illegal. For those that insist it is, I would like to see a link to a website showing the law that states it. On the other hand downloading copy written material without permission is.

limewire is totally illegal no matter what you do. People get caught every day using limewire and get put in jail with a heavy fine. Get your friend to stop using it.

I'm sorry, but you are wrong. Using Limewire is pirating music, putting it on a CD, or no CD. Any music that you download would be considered stolen.

Limewire is copyright infringement....record companies and movie companies monitor Limewire to track people who download music for free...they don't call the police or the FBI but they sue you....
Forget Limewire. It isn't worth the anxiety of whether you will be sued or busted, is it?

you've got bad intel-limewire is illegal under statutes concerning duplication of copyrighted works without financial gain

EDIT- oh...i'm sorry..im only referring to the small number of people who use limewire to download COPYRIGHTED MATERIAL, not the billions of people making up the majority of limewire users who just pass around their OWN INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY....riiiiggggghhhhhhhhttttttt.

Nope, its illegal because you are not paying for the songs, and the Artists worked hard to make the songs, i mean that is their job, and they get thier income by you buying the songs, and if you don't buy them you aren't getting them the right way!
Hope I helped

No, it is illegal if YOU download the song and don't PAY for it. You must pay royalties on any downloaded music. That is what the fees are for.
