My daughter is 13 now but has had some spankings when she was younger. There is some hoopla about a new law or something...I caught the tail end of it.

Spank

I believe it is okay to lightly spat the hand of a toddler to teach him to stay away from things that may be dangerous, but spanking is a definite NO. Spanking teaches kids that it is alright to settle things with violence. It also promotes anger in your child which can carry over into adulthood. Why would you want to hit someone you love? There are so many alternatives to spanking. I never spanked my son and he was a great kid and now a wonderful man. This is something I feel very strongly about. Do some research on-line to learn how harmful and devastating spanking can be to a child long term. I can see by the ratings on this subject that this group is not what I thought it was, and if you notice most of the comments that are in favor of spanking have sexual or hate overtones.

If it's necessary to spank a child you should never do it in anger and you must be consistent and it must be a follow through of teaching that "if you do these certain things you will be spanked "
or
"if you do not do these certain things you will be spanked "
then if they do what they should not or do not do what they should, you should follow through, otherwise they will not be secure and will have no respect

it should all be done as teaching and training and correction
in love

Well for kids I think we (I'm 16 still a child) should still get spanked. The law/government SHOULD NOT rule how people discipline their kids. Theres a very big difference between discipline and abuse. Parents should never abuse kids but spanking helps discipline kids. I mean we all hate spankings but they always taught us to never do something bad again.

SPANK -That's part of whats wrong with our world today.
NO DISCIPLINE (OR LACK OF)
Lets see:
If I do that I'll get a good one on the keester, or
If I do that I'll just hear I'm disappointed in you.
Hmmm which would make you think about not doing something?

Remember the old saying " spare the rod, spoil the child"

I had a teacher in 5th grade that not one single student would even dare to think about cutting up in his class. He had a paddle with holes drilled to cut down on wind drag. POINT IS WE KNEW WHAT THE CONSEQUENCE WAS

There is a point that should never be crossed, then thats abuse! Swats on th A$$ and a slap in the face are two different things

I was spanked as a child. I was on acedemic team, in beta club, graduated with honors, bilogy major, and I'm now an assistant manager..... I feel that kids should have discipline and I know that if being embarassed by a spanking was the result of an action, I never did it again.... It doesn't teach violence, it teaches dicipline. If people love and care for their child, they'll do what's right for them.
I'm glad My parent's loved me enough to teach a little tough love.

I say spank them until there at that grounding age(10 & older).
Or you can do like my mom does me and instead of spanking me she just takes away my pervileges or she gives me more shores around the house. And trust me if you start taking away her t.v, cell phone and other things she'll start listening to you.

Spanking of course... Though spanking doesn't work for all kids. (if not, just take away their XBox360 or Wii or PS3 or TV) hehehe But it does work for some, so if it works, keep it up.
