If I truly, truly love the song and/or the artist, I will pay for the music. I am an avid Tool fan, and I actually purchase their albums the day they're released. Same case with Alice in Chains. I've purchased everything of theirs except Sap (which I'm waiting to have the money for) because I truly believe that the music is worth the money. If it's something I just kinda like, no I'm not gonna pay for it.

BOTH.
I buy cds from retail stores and individual songs from iTunes. (I bought 2 full albums from iTunes already.) Just for fun, I counted how many $15 iTunes gift cards I have. Added it all up and found out that I'm almost spending $200!! but those aren't just songs, I bought 2 full length movies and about 75 tv shows! plus the 2 whole albums I bought.
Then, my parents and I decided that buying from online was too much. So, I asked around online and found out about Limewire. and among other things....
I get FREE songs from Limewire and from friends. My boyfriend lets me import his cds into my ipod and if my online friends have the cd(s) that I want, they upload them to a file share site and I download it and import the mp3 files from there.
Then sometimes if I can't get or find the song that I want for FREE then I buy it from iTunes. Like Carrie Underwood's music video "Ever Ever After." I can't find the video anywhere (in good quality) online. So, I'm forced to buy the entire 'Enchanted' sdtk because her video and single for the song is Album Only. those I hate especially of iTunes. usually the album only I find on Limewire or somewhere else but if all else fails, I spend $10 for the whole album just for one song.

I pay $150 a year for unlimited music. At this time I have over 12,000 songs by over 600 artists legally. The quality is much better than the crap you get at the sharing sites, no risk for viruses and I can get entire albums instead of just a song or two.
Anybody who's still stealing and file sharing needs to step up and get out of the 90's.

For North america i would think 50%. I of course don't. It makes no sense to pay money to listen to a song.

I used to get the songs from YouTube and convert it with http://www.zamzar.com/url , but now I pay for all of my songs with iTunes. I've spent nearly a hundred bucks so far ...
After I saw that article where the teenager wasn't paying for his songs, and his parents had to pay like $175,000 , I figured I'd pay for my songs. =P
