Learn the history of Prohibition measures in the past, especially with regards to alcohol during the 1920s. See how "well" that worked out.
Also, just look at how "wonderfully" our little War on Drugs is doing. Since its inception, the War on Drugs has led to a rise, not fall, in drug production and illegal sales. When there is a demand for such mind-altering substances, rest assured, there will be others more than willing to satisfy their appetite.
A total ban on tobacco or any other drug never works. Education on the effects of abusing substances as a means of preventing new smokers and rehabilitation for existing addicts are far more effective methods than any purely punitive measure.

Unfortunately thats a fairytale.
You may have not noticed but the smoking ban has caused hundreds of pubs to close, thousands of jobs losses, and one pub group reported a 17% loss in revenue, so many places will close. People are not socialising anymore (the ban is anti-social) and more kids are drinking in pubs, drug/cocaine use in on the mega increase in pubs, and double the number of people are hanging around on the streets. The reminder of people are all drinking and smoking at home around their children! The goverment and police can never have any control, its a bit of a silly question!

I agree with you. I think that they should ban smoking but then again i really don't. If they ban smoking bad things can happen. People that are addicted to smoking will do crazy stuff just for a smoke, and there will be a lot of chaos. But then again i do think that they should ban smoking because a lot of people are dying, and getting cancer from smoking. Kids are getting high thinking its cool. Kids die because of smoking, so i think they should ban it but then again i don't its a tough decision.

I think thats a terrible idea, unless the government is willing to provide FREE help for everyone addicted to cigarettes, since for decades its been not only legal, but down right encouraged. They got millions of people addicted to cigarettes and now theyre trying to ban them. You have to be an adult to smoke. If an adult wants to smoke, they have that right. If we ban cigarettes we need to start banning everything that's bad for you. Cigarettes, alcohol, fast food, fried food, artifical flavors and sweeteners, cars, tanning beds, the sun ..... I could go on and on. You really want to start banning everything that's bad for you? Stop and think about the things you enjoy that arent exactly healthy, and then think how you'd feel if it was taken away from you.

while you are at it, why not ban driving any car that gets less than 30 miles to the gallon?
why not ban any house bigger than say 2500 square feet?
why not ban rap music?
I could go on and on....and someone would agree....
The point being, this country was based on PERSONAL FREEDOM. I for one am sick and tired of people trying to exert control over the lives of others for whatever reason. If someone chooses to smoke, knowing the risks, it is their PERSONAL RIGHT to do so. Same for alcohol, same for driving gas guzzling cars, same for any of the personal freedoms we enjoy in this country. You start talking about banning this and that, you head down a slippery slope to absolutism and NO FREEDOMS.

Smoking should be banned in public places. Of course smoking and doing drugs are terrible habits, I don't think it should be banned entirely, cos then we'd have to take legal action against it and there goes all our money.

Banning would be fine by me ... smoking serves no good purpose in life - it's only done because at some point you
do it because someone else you're around is doing it -
I can't imagine anyone's first time smoking and they're thinking wow the taste is awesome, I was a smoker years
ago and realized it was really a gross habit, smell, taste breath, cough etc.

I don't care what you think. Why don't we ban things that you like to do? This is a free country and I have the right to smoke, especially in my home and my car and it is none of your business! Grow up!

I hate any type of tobacco, and would love to see it outlawed, it is killing everyone who is around it. The problem would be that if it was outlawed over night, it would financially destroy many companies, and throw thousands out of work in every state. The way to outlaw smoking without violating rights, is to outlaw smoking for anyone born after a certain date, that way, current smokers can continue, but there would be no new smokers. then the industry would fade out gradually.
