I have two points on this matter:

1.) some people who fight the "isms" (sexism, racism, etc) claim that to be an "ist" you need to be a member of the empowered group with the ability to oppress those who are the target of the hatred. Hence, men can be sexist because, generaly speaking, they hold the highest offices of power and can excert thier will at oppressing woman. Therefoore men who hate woman are sexists, and woman who hate men are not. i have heard this arguement used time and again when i was in college, it always made my head spin to here the inate hypocricy of the arguement. its what a psycologist would call "intelectualization" though he may spell it correctly...

2) much like every other idiological or political group, the fringe elements yell the loudest. most feminists do not hate men, think they are inferior or are lesbians, however we are more likely to associate them with this element of the movement because they are the most interesting to view and therefore the most sought after. just as most conservatives arn't heartless, money grubbing aristocrates dispite the loud mouths who get paid millions a year to represent us and spend a great deal of time justifying personal selfishness

There is a difference. A feminist takes pride in her gender and believes she is equal to man and is capable of doing the same things he can. A sexist believes that there gender is better and they can do everything better. Sometimes you can come across a feminist with a sexist attitude, but not all feminists are sexist.

The movement itself is not sexist at all - but if you have come across members that act in a sexist fashion, then I would say that you have met sexist individuals that parade themselves around as feminists.

The fringe is somewhat sexist, but they are a minority. Mainstream feminists oppose sexism in all ways and seek to end it by fighting for gender equality.

Feminism (by definition) comprises a number of social, cultural and political movements, theories and moral philosophies concerned with gender inequalities and EQUAL rights for women.

Not claiming to want more rights for women then for men.

Agreed with both of the previous posters.

Feminism isn't about making women the superior gender...it's about allowing everyone to be considered for their own qualities, instead of judging based on someone's sex.

The whole point is to stop trying to have one gender be superior to the other.

Perhaps you should look up the definition of feminism. Once you've educated yourself, come back. Then perhaps a real, intelligent discussion can be had. Until then...
