My question is do you want screaming teenagers and big knives and blood spurting and heads falling off? Or do you want a damn good atmospheric, "I don't know what it is or where it's coming from but it's sure scaring the pants offa me" horror movie?

The scariest movie I've ever seen is "The Haunting." NOT that blech with Liam Neeson and Owen Wilson. I'm talkin' the B&W original made in 1963 with Julie Harris and Russ Tamblyn (GH's Emily's real dad). Kinda slow in spots, yes, but a good build up of tension. There are a few scenes that make me stop the tape/disk every time and wait for daylight to finish watching, and I've seen it more than a dozen times. (Uhhh, gotta go visit Netflix again.)

Spiderdi's list is good. I'll add one more- The Shining. The demented Jack Nicholson is superb and the movie is chilling.
