A place in Gilead, so named by Laban, who overtook Jacob at this spot (Gen. 31:49) on his return to Palestine from Padan-aram. Here Jacob and Laban set up their memorial cairn of stones. It is the same as Ramath-mizpeh (Josh. 13:26).

In the Bible, in Genesis 31, two men are discussing business. They have to leave for a while but they don't trust each other. So they acknowledge that God will watch over them to keep them honest while they are apart.

Nowadays, because people love changing things in the Bible to fit their own assumptions, we use it as a blessing "The Lord watch between me and thee, while we are absent one from another." It's more like a blessing of safety. Someone invented a coin design where it is split in half and each person keeps half.
