Perhaps another business in the mall has an exclusivity clause in their lease, that would prohibit a Starbucks there. Many leases limit what competition is in the mall or shopping center! That is why you normally only have one of a type of shop in each center! For example, you would only have one dry cleaner, or one candy store.

It could also be that Starbucks does not want to put an store in that mall, due to the demographics of the area. They study areas and want to open only in areas that will be the most profitable!!

i don't wanna sound racist or anything but high end places like starbucks are only have their coffee shops in areas where they can make a good profit. for example they wouldn't put a starbucks in the ghetto because whose gonna buy coffee there? especially a 3 dollar coffee? but they would put lots of starbucks let say in a downtown area because that's where the high end businesses/work places are and that's where they would get a lot of business. i live in the city and we have like two starbuck's within 5 miles of here, and if you go to the south side you will find almost no starbucks because that's where the ghetto is. but if you go into a northern suburb, most of them are really high end subrubs and i go there quite often and they literally have starbucks on EVERY single corner.

so quite simply, it all depends on the area in which you live. starbucks targets the high end people because that's where they''ll get more profit. however mcdonalds would have more restaurants in middle-lower class areas because that's where they would get the most profit. ever notice how many of the people in mcdonald's commercials are colored (african american, latino) that's because that's the people mcdonald's targets. i swear i'm not trying to be stereotypical or racist, but it's true.

You're not missing anything. Consumer Reports said that Mc Donalds has better coffee than Starbucks.

Your mall is probably considered not worthy of a Starbucks. Sorry.

Starbucks is really picky about where they start a new operation.
