I want to start making my own clothes for me and my two children. Is it difficult to read the patterns and so on?? How long does it usually take to complete an outfit?

I was in exactly the same situation, and it is not as difficult as it looks. I taught myself how to sew and read patterns in a very short time. Now I am making clothes for my family and saving us heaps of money, you know how quickly kids grow:)! If you don't have a sewing machine yet, it pays to shop around and sewing classes will help a lot as well. Start with simple projects, like a pair of pants or something, which you can make in a few hours. The time it takes depends on how simple or complicated the pattern is.
Before you know it, people will be telling you how good the kids look in your creations! Good luck and enjoy, it is an extremely satisfying 'hobby'.

With experience, a few days..

Do yourself a favor, contact a local store that sells sewing machines, and ask about sewing classes, you will be way ahead.....
