I'm wondering because I am supposed to be started a basic job at CVS, while Im in school for Pharmacy. I do have a criminal record (not drug or money related though).

If I get hired and stay with the company all through med school, can they not-hire me as a pharmacists due to my record?

Just wondering if there is a 'foot in the door' clause that would protect me from being completely screwed over.

You should check this out with the local licensing authority. They may not permit people with criminal records to obtain a pharmacists license.
Good luck to you.

I think that a criminal convection would hinder advancement in certain fields. Anything dealing with confidentiality would be of concern as well as any medicine handling.

Sadly, A criminal record is a criminal record... you'll probably be ok at a large company like CVS... but how long do you plan on staying? and how far up can you go... isn't a drug store in malls?

I would think that a criminal record would affect you instantaneously, not after you'd been hired (unless you had new convictions). I'm assuming that since your record is not drug or money-related, it wouldn't cause any problems for you to become a pharmacist or to get advanced at CVS.

If this was a non-violent non drug and non money related offenses, especially of the misdemeanor variety it should not stop you, especially if you show a record of accomplishment since. If you get through college and med school you will have other options anyway.

The Illinois Board of Pharmacy looks at the actual crime. They tend to be forgiving as long as it is not pharmacy related or a major felony. In the law, they are not required to deny you a license unless you have two major convictions. In the worst case scenario, the board will ask you to appear before them before granting you your license. They just want to make sure you will not continue to do this.

it is very possible that the record will keep you from getting hired as a Pharmacy Tech. Did you talk to the HR rep that hired you about this?

Depends on company policy and the type of record you have. Normally, if its a felony it could prevent you from advancement or even continuing in your job. Check the policy to be sure.
