The alleged disrespect of naming the toy Mohammed is not the real reason for the Sudanese government's action against the teacher. The Muslim parents of the children didn't see any problem with it. The children took turns taking Mohammed home, so the parents knew all about it.
There is a dispute between the government and the school over taxes. This is how the government of Sudan enforces its will; by terrorizing innocent people. Remember, this is the regime that supports the genocide in Darfur.
Islam (at least most Muslim groups) forbids making an image of the Prophet Mohammed (pbuh). In pictures, statues, movies, etc, Mohammed (pbuh) is not depicted visually. Notice the letters (pbuh). These are always put after the name of the Prophet (pbuh) to distinguish him from any other Mohammed. The toy bear didn't have this designation and was in no way a depiction of Mohammed (pbuh).

I keep thinking about how sad it is that little children have lost their teacher because of this. What on earth good can this possibly teach them? The Sudanese government got themselves into a mess - they had to be seen to be doing something, but they can't win. Her sentence has appalled most people here, but lots of fanatics there are baying for her blood.

Its all down to blasphemy in the eyes of muslims.
Its cheapening the image of mohammed, its alright for islam
to take a swipe at judaism and christianity but when the shoes
on the other foot they do literally throw their teddy (pun intended) out of the pram.
But we have to deal with islam as a young religion it is 1428yrs old.
It is comparable to europe in 1428, when all kinds of hideous
acts were done in the name of christ: the inquisition, burning witches etc.

In Sudan the teacher is responsible for the actions of the children and have responsibility over the children.
In the UK it is the kids that have the rights and the teacher has to comply with those rights.
