I believe it started with native american indians and was passed up thru the generations and its known as a time to harvest crops because the lighted hours are a bit more to harvest more crops in,,

I would agree 100% with spaceguy he's right.

Being part Native American; this came from N.Am culture.
The Harvest moon is a spacific moon, in the Autum in which it seemed larger, thus brighter in the sky. Was a signal to them to Harvest the crops. Some spacific religions/cultures still respect and celibrate the Harvest Moon today.

People like to attribute special meanings to celestial objects, and their perceived relationship with the goings-on down on Earth.

Of course there really is no relationship between the Moon and the harvest, unless the harvest somehow involves oceanic tides.
