Curious if anyone has experienced something like this, and if it's reversable. I've been researching into the vasectomy proceedure, and it sounds like there is a risk (albeit small) of following surgery being left with long-term chronic pain (not just pain from the surgery, but rather pain that manifests months/years later, and persists).

I'm interested in hearing if anyone knows about this or has experienced anything like this.

Thanks.

My husband suffered from this and it affects 20-30% of men that have vasectomy's. He had a constant dull ache in his balls that never went away. He ended up getting a vasectomy reversal and is now pain free....

This pain happens when the vasectomy is not open ended. The doctor closes up the Vas Deferens instead of leaving it open. When the tube is left open, the semen simply gets reabsorbed into the body and there is no difficulty. When the vasectomy is closed some men will get a backup pressure. This can happen at any time and you do not have to be in a sexual activity for the pain to occur. If you need relief, then you should find an Urologist who performs an open-ended vasectomy. They can re-do the vasectomy, and your insurance may cover the expense.

I belong to a "Child-Free" club. We have about 50 couples in our club. Pretty much every man, in the club, has had a vasectomy. Not a single one ever mentioned it.

It is called PVPS (Post Vasectomy Pain Syndrome). There are three, thought to be, causes:

1. Incorrectly done surgery, that caused scar tissue between the tendons and other structures. This will usually result in pain when there are temperature changes, and the tendons are pulled on by the groin muscles. This is more common with the "high tech" vasectomies, but very uncommon with "traditional" vasectomies. Reversal will not fix the problem.

2. Previous injury, or condition: This is when the man had some kind of injury long before the vasectomy (football, ect). The vasectomy procedure further complicates things by disturbing the scar tissue.

3. Psychological: Some men just emotionally can't handle a vasectomy. They suffer pain, loss of sex drive, etc, yet there is nothing wrong. Men that have sensitive egos suffer from this, because they feel they are no longer a man. - Pretty silly huh?

Edit: I forgot to mention "Patient disobedience". I think a lot of "macho" men, think they can go do yard work, or lift weights in the first week after their surgery. I have heard of all kinds of problems caused by such behavior.

My man was the same as Lola's above. He had it and now post reversal is pain free. He is against vasectomies now after all he went through.
