Yes it is a Muslim country, but don't let anyone put you off. You need to be aware of the possibility of offending people, however they are used to tourists. I travelled to Marrakech a little while ago and was worried as well. Some of the locals dress like westerners, a lot of the women wear the muslim dress and some are in the full regalia with only their eyes showing. We walked out and about in shorts but I made an effort to keep my shoulders covered and not show too much breast. However there were loads of people wearing next to nothing. I would respect their religion but don't worry about it. We had no problems and we went during Ramadam. It's a very exciting vibrant city and there is some great shopping to be done. Make sure you have enough room in your suitcase!

First of all, Marrakesh is one of best cities in the world, the food is great, the weather is nice the whole year long, the people's hospitality is great. Marrakesh is located in Morocco ( North Africa ) you can fly into Casablanca and take a train or you can fly into Marrakesh directly. Morocco is a Muslim country, and they are very open to moderation and technology as well. Moroccans are very open people, they are well educated, most of people speaks more than 2 languages, you will have no problem speaking English to people especially shops seller, they speak 5 or more. see the link I sent you and see the photos of Marrakesh. I am Moroccan and my wife is American, and she can't wait till she comes back there again, she LOVES Morocco. It is such a beautiful country, people are really nice. What you see in Hollywood movies or in news are lies to show that the other world is bad, but it is NOT. After you see the photos, I would like you to reply back and let me know what you think of there. hear from you soon.

Morocco is a religious country - Muslim.
Marrakech is an amazing place, you should definitely go!!!
Don't be put off, just be respectful towards their culture and religion and you will be welcomed.
It is a very busy city so do be cautious but no more than you would visiting any new city.
I've added a link for you, enjoy!

It is more religious and conservative than the UK but is a very relaxed country compared to other Islamic countries. They seem to appreciate that there are a lot of westerners coming over.
You should go. So long as you dress sensibly (cover your legs and arms, no revealingly low tops), you will be fine. They allow you to drink but obviously, don't go overboard and start behaving like a drunk on the street.

Yes, but Sarah said it best. It might seem religious to you but not to others. Moroccans are very welcoming of foreigners (tourists) especially in Marrakesh!

Marrakesh is one of the Imperial Cities of Morocco. Enjoy, buy leather products as they are relatively inexpensive. Don't forget to try the different types of food. Lamb Tagine with prunes, Couscous with raisins and onions and couscous with meat and vegetables. Kabbabs, Moroccan sardines, and fish in general.
Pastella, Moroccan cookies, etc.
Don't forget mint tea. (In the voice of Homer Simpson) Mint Tea.......

Morocco is religious compared to the west but not really compared to many Muslim nations. Marrakech is a very touristy city and the people there are used to them.

I suppose you have in mind what's happened to Gillian Gibbons. Morocco is a muslim country and if you slipped up and offended any religious nut there you could be hauled over the coals. Be warned that this is not just a possibility, but very likely.
