I am putting in a walkway from my driveway to the backyard fence/ patio. I was wondering if by doing this I am raising the house value any? My husband says it's just a waste of time and money, but it's something that I love doing. Thanks in advance.

I put in an area for a garden up next to the house part that is about 1.5 feet wide and the walkway beside it is about 4 feet wide. I'm using regular bricks to outline the garden and walkway and I'm not sure what type of stepping stones or gravel I'll be using. The garden area has wildflowers in it now, but I am planning on putting in some bulbs or something else in Spring.

With all due repect to any other answers; I say GO FOR IT,,,no matter. Obviously it should be asthetically pleasing; even if you were going to remain in the house for life.

The FIRST thing that HOOKS any prospective; is "curb appeal"; even if they eventually buldoze it and install sod.

The fact that YOU enjoy doing it; is a fact your Hubby should submit to. No offense to him; but waste of time and money is relative. It might be you elaborate your thoughts and do a gazebo; a sanctyuary; a place to spend time outdoors; that others might also relate to

Is it likely to increase the value? No! Will it create suggestions and notions in prospectives, regarding gardens etc. ? Certainly.

The two most effective methods of increasing the sale price of a home; or it's "value"; are upgrading kitchens and baths. No offense to my Gender; but the choice of Where "WE"; are going to live; "JUST BECAUSE I LIKE IT"; is most often a womans choice.

Although it may not raise the actual value of your house it could help you to sell the house down the road. You never know what little detail that someone will fall in love with. This is an esthetically pleasing addition to any house and I am sure it would be a Gardner's dream to have a beautiful stone walk way that leads to their equally beautifully garden. Either way, if done properly it can't lower the cost of your house. Besides who is your husband to tell you it is a waste of time if it is something you enjoy doing?

Yes if done nicely it will add to the value of the property. My husband is like that. Never wants to part with a buck, that is how he views it....I did what I wanted to do to the house, and yard and always withing reason. All of it only adds to the value, if done well, and not sloppy. Go for it Girl.....and enjoy the new walkway....He will when it is done....especially if he doesnt have to do much work.....A lot of guys are pretty easy. I always did my surprise projects when he went to work....He was always pleased when he saw how great things looked.

If done well and maintained, it should raise the value of the property slightly.

If it is done poorly, it can badly decrease the value.

But if you are not planning to sell the house in the next couple years, go ahead. Make it a HOME and enjoy living there.

It will probably help add curb appeal to you home, it won't add much to the current market value. Updated kitchens and bathrooms add the best resale value, along with added sq. footage. However curb appeal never hurts as it will get people into a home to look, where they might not have otherwise.

This is a win-win situation.
You like to do it and your husband dosen't.
Don't worry about how well it will look afterward or if it will raise the value of the house, the real value of this project is the pleasure of doing it.

While this will increase the "curb appeal" of your house, it will have little effect on the value, other than it could result in a quicker sale.

If it is something you enjoy , why would you care about the monitary "value".
If this is your way of finding inner peace then who cares what your husband thinks.
If it was me ,I would just be happy to know my partner is happy.
