I don't think anyone has come close to John Peel for playing all new tracks from all different styles. Can anyone prove me wrong?

No, because no one else really puts the music first - there is too much ego and vanity with contemporary "star" dj's. John Peel was the god of musicians.

Though I'm not very familiar w/ him, I do know enough to know that his passing was likely the end of an era. Many don't rely on a single, iconic source for their music anymore now.

It's all about general word of mouth, the internet, video games & dumb tv shows etc.

I guess most modern djs have been influenced by him and so promote new music but they still seem to be very genre specific no one will ever compare to his eclectic tastes.

You are correct, he was uncomparable.
Before him Bill Randle introduced radio and TV to a lot of famous US acts like Elvis, Tony Bennett, Pat Boone, etc.
