I had a check-up today and was measuring rather small. I am 37 weeks and was measuring 31 weeks. I had an ultrasound done down in radiology and am still waiting to hear from the doctor. The technician said the baby was 5 lbs. My son was born at 37.5 weeks and weighed almost 8 lbs.
I know I need to hear from the doctor in regards to my pregnancy, but has anyone measured this small at 37 weeks and what is your story? I wish I knew more of what was going on and am desperately waiting for the phone call from my doctor!

I just had the u/s done about an hour ago. My doctor is great, and I know when she gets a chance to review the results that radiology sent her, she will call me and I will ask all of my questions to her. I was just looking to see if anyone else experienced anything like this. I have only gained about 15lbs.

If it has been a few hours, please call them and find out. Sometimes if you don't get on them, they hesitate to call you. I don't at all want to scare you, but I just had a friend who was 36 weeks and lost her baby, he measured just over 3 lbs. I, however, was 38 weeks and my son was measuring about the same as yours is currently, and he is now 16 months old, was born beautiful and healthy. It can go either way, but my suggestion is to call them, and don't let up, until you hear back. You CHOSE them to help you with this pregnancy, they need to work for you, because in reality, that's what you picked them to do. Best of luck to you, and I'm sure you'fe ine!

Measuring your belly doesnt do anything to determine the development or health of the baby. Its an archaic practice and I cant believe your doctor still uses it at all.
I wouldnt think twice about it, honestly. There are a myriad of reasons why you could measure 31 and not 37, and only a couple are cause for concern.

I'm 39 weeks and at my last appt, I measured 36 weeks. That's because baby had dropped significantly. Also, don't necessarily believe what the technician told you. They really aren't supposed to inform you of any information like that anyway without consulting the doctor first. I'm sure your baby is just fine. Good luck!!

One of the reasons your Dr. is making the big bucks is to answer questions about your pregnancy that you might have. I suggest that you write your questions down in a concise manner so that you can address them to your Dr on your next visit. You may get lots of reasons why baby weight may be low, but none of them may apply to you. Only your Dr. can give you a precise answer or at least an informed answer.

Maybe your pregnancy was measured wrongly, or you could be less far along than you thought. My aunt had her baby when she was 40 weeks, but they measured her at 31 two days before she was born.
