I have a 96 Geo Tracker and recently I have noticed that when I am accelerating the speedometer needle bounces a lot until I get up to at least 30 mph. My first thought is that the connection cable might be coming loose. Anyone have a better idea than me?

That's usually the indication of a dry cable. Remove the cable, from the rear of the speedo, and lubricate it with a bit of graphite based cable lube. The lube can be purchased at most auto parts stores. DO NOT use oil as it will gum up the cable and cause even worse problems.

The cable might be loose or it might need lubrication. Eventually it could break.

depends on if it's electronic, or cable driven, it might be a loose connection somewhere if its electrical..
