The advantage to a low dollar is that goods the we manufacture here in the US will be cheaper for other countries to import so businesses in the US should get more business. Also outsourcing jobs to other countries will be more expensive so fewer jobs will get outsourced and possibly some will come back to the US. Foriegn tourists will find it cheaper to travel to the US so the tourism industry should benefit as well.

If the Dollar looses much of it's value it seems to me the rich would become richer, the poor poorer and the middle class would become poor, drawing a fine line between the two opposite classes.

Yes, during the great depression it was very low. The people that bought up property then and their ancestors had an easy life.
