I've heard eating eggplant will do it but I'm not so sure about how accurate that is. I've also heard that primrose oil works to help with dilation, but they could be urban legends. Good luck, I've been there and know the feeling :)

I tried everything when I was 41 weeks. I walked laps around Walmart 3 times a day, sex w/my fiance every chance we could, and the kid still didnt want to come out. No matter what we tried!!

So I finally called my doctor & whined about how uncomfortable I was and made it sound horrible, and he induced me 3 days later. So you can always try the whiney thing....see if that works. If you want to be induced & it's past 40 weeks, you can be induced, no matter if your doctor doesnt want you to. But be careful, being induced makes contractions a million times worse.

Why on earth would you want to induce labor while you are babysitting three children and you're husband's away???!!!

Ok, so after the children leave and the husband comes back, one surefire way to induce labor is to climb and descend stairs. You might try making the motions if you can't do the real thing.

This is assuming you've already tried the other tried-and-true method of nipple stimulation. Preferably not in front of the children.

You can always walk up and down the stairs, or back and forth across the living room!!! Good luck. I also heard that FRESH pineapple will soften the cervix... don't know how true that one is though, but I went into labor about 2 days after I started eating a bunch of it... and I wasn't dialated at all beforehand.

My doctor told me to lay upside down on the stairs (head near the bottom of the steps) if you can do it without falling! A friend of mine was 8 days overdue and she downed a couple tablespoons of COD LIVER OIL It tastes gross but it worked! She was in labor in less then 8 hours!

Good luck!

Stimulate your nipples. I promise you it will move things along. Thats how I actually delivered. My contractions while pushing were NEVER consistent, I had to turn on the brights to get them going.

Just rub and pinch them for 20 minutes at a time every hour. I promise it will get things going. It causes extremely intense contractions at this stage of the game, and that can really help change your hormones which moves labor along.

I actually went into labor from trying to poop. So that always works too.

Try sitting and rotating your hips in a circular motion, then take a walk around your house/yard/block/...whatever is a good amount that you can walk at this point...and go back to rotating the hips. If you have one of those exercise balls, try sitting on that...but if not, just sit on the edge of a chair. Try nipple stimulation as well.

Good luck, I hope you get to meet your little one soon!!!!

Just wait. I know it sucks and that is not want you want to hear, but nipple stimulation is not safe because it causes violent contractions and can put your baby into distress. It should only be done under the supervision of a physician. Try asking baby politely to come out :-) I am sorry I know it is horrible but the baby will be here soon!

I thought that they aren't supposed to let you go past 42 weeks? I've heard to relax, take a warm bath and the more you worry about it, the longer it will be!

You can give yourself an enema at home. They have home enema kits, or you could use a disposable douche. I know several people who have done this and they went into labor within 48 hours.
