Must be The Clash - they had more songs and were more refined musicians. The Pistols only really have one album - it's great, but The Clash have done more. The Sex Pistols were also rubbish live - I'm talking from a musical perspective! Whereas The Clash were professionals.

Both are awesome bands
As far as talent goes, definatly the Clash, they write amazing songs and are great musicain and are just an all awound great band
The Sex Pistols are really just a lot of screaming adn ranting, but they are very different and anti-everything which is why they are good too
But in the end THE CLASH are the BEST

I'd have to say the Clash. I think that in the diversity of their sound and how well they did it they were able to influence a broader scope of musicians. So that for my opinion on the history.
For personal preference, I would also take the Clash. You're right though, both great historical bands. I'm not a big Pistols guy personally, but you can't deny their awesomeness and real affect on music that followed them.

The clash had more staying power if you think about it. The sex pistols only released one studio album, and as good as it was...the clash had many hits ad are the better band in the end.
