Yes there is. One leaves from the downtown dock at Charlotte Amelie (ask or look for signs), and takes about 45 minutes to get to St. John (it's a beautiful ride, you'll enjoy greatly). . It goes round-trip, but the last boat to go back there leaves St John, I believe, early; meaning 3 pm. You will probably NOT want to return that early. So you can still leave from Charlotte Amelie, and you can return to Red Hook, about 20 minute ride, quite a bit later; I think last boat leaves St. John about 10 or 11 pm. (When you get off ferry at St. John, first thing to do is to look at ferry schedule times for returning to St. Thomas. There right at start of the dock. You can't miss them if you look for them). Once you get back to St. Thomas, there will be MANY taxies waiting. They cost about $12 US, per person, to get back to Charlotte Amelie. A nice way to take the trip, as you get to see the full length of the island, (well almost), both from sea, and also on land. And you do not have to come back so early. And it's cheaper going from St. John to Red Hook, because it's shorter, so that partly makes up for the taxi ride back to town. I highly recommend this, unless you trying to catch a plane or something like that. Note: Wherever you leave from, make sure you leave enough time to get to the airport, as the traffic can be very crowded and slow.

Go to VINow.com. Lots of info, including ferry schedule. There's one from Red Hook to Cruz Bay and one from Charlotte Amalie to CB [runs less-frequently].

with the additional information that the 6,7, 7:30 and 8 o'clock boats going to STJ from STT, and the 3,4 and 5 boats coming back are literally standing room only with construction workers from the Dominican Republic....it's crowded!
Take your trip over in the off hours; it's a lot easier on the nerves...
