First of all Race is not the Proper term because A race implies rank........... Somebody Has the rank of the top or the best, number one, then second third and so on. The proper term is ethnicity. Different backrounds but all on the same level because i am not better than anyone or they are not better than me because of ethnicity.
Having Friends of major differences in ethnicities very duable and I think its a must.

I'm from Spain and i have two friends from Korea and one from Taiwan. The Koreans are catholic, but the Taiwanese has a different religion. There is one in my school who is Arabian but he's like any other person. I also have American friends, and from Germany, Mexico, Brazil, etc. But they don't have major differences.

i have a mixture of friends from different colour as well as different religion, so i will say like 50/50 I'm an Indian living in UK.
but you make friends with people you get along with as well as have thing in common, so colour & religion etc dosent really come in to it.
if i enjoy there company as well as they do mine thats all there is to start a friendship.

We're a pretty diverse bunch where I work, and I get along really well with almost all of my co-workers. Out of them I would say 3 African-American (2 guys, 1 woman), a couple Oriental women, and one guy who is a first generation American whose parents moved here from Mexico, I would consider pretty good friends. It's a pretty cool collection we got.
