I will be 40 weeks on Saturday and I have not felt one braxton hick contraction at all! None throughout my pregnancy. Has anyone else been like this? Also, I had a doctors apt yesterday and she didn't check me to see if I was dialated any. She said there was no use since I wasn't having contractions. Is that normal?

Also, it wasn't my doctor who seen me that day. Actually I haven't seen my doctor in about 2 months! It's always been someone else lately. I was checked last Tuesday and I was 2 centimeters. I just think she should have checked me. I don't have another app until next thursday!

Not all woman experience braxton hicks. I did- only a couple, and didnt realize thats what they were until I went into labor the next day (I just thought I was having a tummy ache). But at 40 weeks your doc definitely should have checked you- for many reasons. Sometimes your water breaks before you have contractions- and not all woman know when theirs breaks (this was the case for me- it must have happened when I showered or went to the bathroom). But if it did break, you would need to go to the hospital. He or she could also see if you were dilated- this might start to happen before you have any contractions. Or at least tell you if your close! I think your doctor must have been in a hurry or something- I would not be happy if I were you!

It's perfectly normal for you not have felt any contractions yet, BH or otherwise.

There was no need to check you for dilation. You're not overdue, you're healthy, and sounds like your pregnancy is progressing perfectly.

Best bet is to always let things happen as naturally as you can, with as little intervention as possible. Sometimes, at your stage, a simple check or some manipulation of the cervix can actually bring labor on.

This baby will be born when he or she is ready. If your doctor suspects any danger in letting you going too long, she will intervene to bring on your labor. Until then, relax and think about your beautiful baby that will be with you for Christmas.

Good luck.

I have 2 kids & never had a single Braxton Hicks contraction!! I always thought maybe I just didn't notice them but once I had a real contraction - you know!! That is odd your dr. didn't check to see if you are dialated... The last 4 weeks of my pregnancies (both of them & 2 diff. drs.) both checked at each appt. I had!!

I never had any Braxton Hicks with my pregnancies either. But, I would have thought she would have checked you to see if you were dilated - especially since you're so far along. Maybe you should call her office and ask a nurse if you should be checked. You certainly wouldn't want to be walking around not knowing if you might be 4 centimeters dilated already.

I never felt anyt contractions until it was time to go. I went in to the doctor on my due date and they did not check me. They looked at my stomach and listened to the heart beat and that was it. She came 5 days later than the due date. I felt nothing until the night before she was born. Everyone is different.
Good luck though, sounds like it is coming fast.
Is the baby kicking still. Most of the time when it is ready the baby stops kicking as much.
Get ready cause here you go.

Im 35 weeks pregnant and also think it's odd I haven't experienced any. It's strange she didn't check you because some woman dialate weeks before they go into labor. But shes your OB/Doctor and knows whats best and necessary for you and your child.

If I was you I'd start using gravity to my advantage and try to stimulate labor. Walk up and down the stairs a couple of times.

I never had braxton hicks with either of my two daughters. Not to be gross or anything but around 36 weeks I had discharge and I was dilating. From my point of view I'd say that yes it is normal.

I have no clue, I am thinking maybe you are not as far along as you thought. I would walk the mall or something to try to get the little bundle of joy motivated. I am 28 weeks and wondering if you felt your baby move more at 28 weeks or 40??

My mom tells me she never had braxton hicks. In which case labor was horrible because she did not know what to expect. I have had braxton hicks if you dont have them be happy. But when that first period like cramp comes. That is a contraction welcome to childbirth. Good luck.
