I recall few songs by Billy Joel, and even fewer that I liked. He sang "Just the Way You are" and I hated it. In terms of the total hours of listening enjoyment it's definitely Elton John for me. But I have none of his music in any form, not even an old cassette from the radio. I do have Billy Joel on a compilation LP (a black thing that played at 33 1/3 rpm!). I do have CDs but do either of these feature on CDs?

For performers at their level (VERY high), it's a matter of personal taste. Mine: Billy Joel, with Elton a *very* close second.

Billy Joel, as he doesn't seem as much of a drama queen as Elton "I'm having a hissy fit, do you know who I am" John

Elton writes his own music too he just doesn't do lyrics. The early stuff by Elton was the best, but he hasn't done as good lately.
