Mr. Lutz (the former owner) admitted before he died that it was a hoax. Him and the Warrens went in on it together to make a book, which eventually was made into a movie. Parts of it are true like the minor things, but they made up the majority of it. Though it was a good movie, it's not true.

there are some minor true aspects, like the family being really creeped out and leaving the house and all their possessions, and something about the hinges really being blown off the door.

but all the demonic parts of the movie were added in by the book writer/film makers.

l watched the true story on the history channel it was truly horrific that a young man could butcher his whole family. As for the spooky stuff l think its probably been exaggerated for the films but l believe something happened.

I think it is "kinda true" even if it was not to begin with.. just because it has taken on a life of its own. Jay Anson is A GREAT writer. If you ever get the chance to read his book 666 do so, it is AWESOME!!! one of the best books I have ever read.

the whole story was created off an actual event where a guy killed his entire family in this house. supposedly he heard voices that told him to do it. while there might be some truth to the movie/book, i saw/read it too long ago to remember, the story is made up.

I think the son did kill his whole family even though he is saying he didn't. I don't think the house became haunted because I don't believe in that sort of stuff. It made a good movie though.
