Hi,
My fiance booked us at the Fun Royale Beach Resort for our honeymoon at the end of December. I've found some mixed reviews for it on the internet. Are we better off upgrading to a 4star hotel or should we just stick with this one? Any one been here and what were their experiences?

I've stayed at Fun Royale/ Fun tropical and I like to say that it was a very good hotel with two pools, beautiful restaurant view of the mountain and golf coarse, But your not on the beach you have to take a shuttle bus or walk about 20 min. Your in a resort community called Playa Dorada and no locals are allowed in, so walking around the different hotels and beach are really safe, as far as Honeymoon, I wouldn't stay here, but upgrading to some of the nicer hotels on the beach can be a little expensive, but it's your honeymoon !! spend a little more and get something you'll remember for a life time, there's always other years to do the cheap holidays ....anyway hope that helps Ren

Fun Royale is not exactly a honeymoon hotel, it's more a hotel for cheap tourist, much noise and that kind of resort you will forget to book! Take the Gran Ventana (directly on the beach) and much better !

It is a mediocre hotel but it is close to Sosua-Cabarete and Puerto Plata where you should go and check out anyway.

I never recommend all inclusives because they tell you it is unsafe to go off the campus because it is dangerous so they can sell you their overpriced tours.

Check out the other places and enjoy the country!
