Sometimes it's the only option.
Ex: A woman is being raped while you walk by. Do you try to reason with the rapist, or stop him with force? (assuming you can)

they feel like they have nothing to lose. usually people resort to violence when they feel backed into a corner and see no way out. it can also be due to their nature. some people are just naturally violent and know no other way. these people sometimes have some kind of mental disorder such as manic depressant/bi-polar disorder/dementia among others.
either way violence is wrong. it doesn't solve anything it just creates more problems. as long as people feel threatened, are discriminated against, so poor that they have to fight to the death to keep what they have and feel like no one in the world cares about if they live to see the next day or not then there is always going to be violence. good luck.

Sometimes it's because it's the only thing they know, like if they grew up in an abusive family where issues are solved by violence or abuse. Otherwise, it could be because they are just angry people who think violence really is the answer.

well most people result to violence when the other person is not understanding. I think it is the degradation of society to the " what can you do for me".
It seems that people are impatient for any thing to happen and when they see something going the wrong way they want to correct it as fast as passable.
I herd a funny joke about Gandhi (the Buddhist) "if i was 2 lb with a wet turban on my head i would try for world peace. but if i was 6'6'' and 250 lb he would have thought the left hook was the cure for cancer"
Personally I think it is people are not willing to lesson to another point of view and try and see their point. Stress also plays a part in this as well.

personally i resorted to violence when i felt i had nothing else to loose i felt trapped in the situation i was in and i was so upset i thought that it was the only way to settle my problem but iv learned that violence only creates more problems and a lot of jail time talking to some one or to the person you are mad at is the best way to solve your differences and it keeps you out of cuffs

Sometimes some people have to use violence. Other times and other people just aren't humane enough to know any other way.

Because they can -- and there is no punishment when they do use violence (after all, I can attest to this -- for my ex -- from a short disaster of a marriage -- was an abusive, violent sociopath -- he was CONVICTED of abuse, and basically got a slap on the wrist). SO SICK and TIRED of VIOLENT Abusers getting away with violence -- they need to be castrated (and removed from society) for sure!

Violence is always a result of dissidence. Find the reason for it and sympathise if the action is above board, if not sort out to your view point

That's all they know, usually these are people who never learned to deal with the little problems in life, and now all they know is push and shove, it's usually people who are not very intelligent, i'm sorry to say that, but it's true.
