Dial up can not support wireless. You must have some type of high speed internet access such as DSL or Cable.

If you do have high speed internet, you would want to purchase a Wireless Router. It should include instructions on set up. But, in a nut shell, you will connect the Wireless Router to the Modem and then connect your main computer to the Wireless Router to set it up.

If you have Windows XP, you will want to install the drivers for the Wireless Card on your laptop. To improve speed or reception, I would suggest that you purchase an external Wireless Cards that fits in your PCI slot. (The external cards that fit in your USB port are easily damaged.)

Good luck!

Ok,

First, you need to find out if the laptop is capable of wireless "Internet".

This would be listed in the laptops users manual.

If it does have wireless built in, then you simply need to buy a wireless router from an electronics retailer.

Then plug the internet modem into the wireless router and follow the directions that come with the router.

You need to buy a wireless router which connects to the cable modem allowing you to broadcast a wireless signal. Make sure you encrypt your signal or else other people will feed off f your signal for free.
