I'm trying to decide between cable and directtv. I hear that cable get you less games. Is this really an issue. Also, I like to watch my home team's home broadcast. Which will make that more possible.

I had the Extra Innings package in the past with both cable and satellite, and I don't remember one having more games than the other. I had Time Warner as my carrier, and they allotted enough channels to squeeze in all the games. The place where you'll get the most games is the online package, but I'm still not big on watching games on my computer.

As for your home team's broadcast, it won't matter which package you choose - the feeds are the same. Remember, though, that your local team will be blacked out. For example, when I had this package in southwestern Ohio, all Reds games were blacked out on the Extra Innings package. If I wanted to watch them, I'd have to watch our local Foxsports - that's something you might take into consideration, since a satellite won't get you much local coverage.

I have had Directv since 1998. With this:
1) I have a small dish - wires not seen all over. It is no different from cable.
2) I do not have reception problems in the rain. But my neighbor does with digital cable.
3) I have about 100 HD channels
4) I get the NFL Network, Big Ten Network, and NHL Network at NO extra cost.
5) A much better picture (since it is 100 digital - not "shared" digital signals like cable
6) It is cheaper than cable

But the choice is yours. I get all the same local channels as cable, so I never miss a game for my 2 Chicago teams. I don't know if you get less games on cable, but all games are in HD on the Directv packages.

I have had the package the last 2 years on cable, and there is at least 12 games on everyweek night, and the only time games are limited is when a game runs up against a national telecast like Fox Satudarday baseball or Sunday Night Baseball.

With DirectTV, i believe you get an extra channel that lets you watch more than one game at a time, similar to their football package, but not much more than that. I believe they air the same games.

If your concern is watching your home town team and you still live in that town, the game will be blacked out if you still live in that market and the game is television on a local network, but if that was the case, why wouldn't you watch the local network? If you don't live local to your team, there is a pretty good chance that you'll get at least 150 of your teams games. They usually only don't when two bad teams meet at night. They seem to have not shown more Rangers games than anyother team

Go with cable, if you have bad weather such as a rain storm you'll be sitting out the game, or trying to decipher what is happening thru the static storm.

I'm not sure if you are interested in HD, but as far as DirectTV vs. Cable HD wars go, I have heard the satalite companies don't have the upward mobility that cable does. Word is Rupert Murdock the big dollar financer of DirectTV is selling his controlling shares and getting out of the SAT biz.

I think you will find cable more consistent overall, if you have multiple cable companies in your area, now thats another story.

I prefer cable since you don't have the hassles of DirecTv installation - dish, all the wires, etc. - and cable can be grouped into a phone, ISP, cable TV package at a discounted price.
