It used to be one of my favorite movies when I was little, but I was watching it again with my daughter, and it seems so different from the movies made for kids today?
Any thoughts?

I don't think it would be. People expect too much these days. I think that it would be considered twee and overly sentimental.

Consider Moulin Rouge which was successful largely because of the beautiful scenery and the whole extravagance and look of the production. Old movies like Fred Astaire just couldn't cut it any more. As one of my friends put it- "You just couldn't get away with a balding midlle aged man tap dancing with a cane these days".

Then again "Hairspray" was very succesful and the joy of that was just how camp and overly sentimental it was. Maybe with a reworking and updating of the effects Mary Poppins would do well.

In summary, i just don't know! Good film though and it would be a travesty if they tried to remake it.

It would never have been made. There would have been mommy's groups protesting the use of a nanny in place of a parent, women's groups protesting the misogynist father, etc. There's no way any of that would have made it in today's Hollywood.

It probably wouldn't do well today because it is too NICE. Plus, I'm sure somebody could figure out how it is BAD for us. Ya know, like Sesame Street!
