We have been TTC for about 9 mo., and I recently started charting BBT and CM. We also just got a cat, which I'm slightly allergic to, so I've been taking diphenhidramine (benedryl), and at first my CM seemed normal (becoming increasingly abundant, etc, as my cycle progressed), but today (day 14 of a 31-32 day cycle) it seems like the CM is really dry and sticky. Could the benedryl be causing this? Note: it is an antihistamine only, not a decongestant.

Oh yeah. Beware of Benadryl. It is infamous in drying up cm. Well, just about any antihistamine will do it. Try to find a different way to deal with your cat allergy. You might get used to the cat and not even need the benadryl eventually. You could try something like preseed, if you absolutely HAVE to have the benadryl. A lot of women that don't have much fertile quality cm use it. I also tried Robitussin around ovulation one time, but I don't know if I would suggest it. It worked wonderfully in increasing my cm, but I don't know if it would work while taking an antihistamine. I'd say try preseed if you can't do without the benadryl. Good Luck!!

Certainly. Antihistamines are used to dry up your secretions (watery eyes and runny nose) But benadryl can't tell the difference between vaginal secretions and your allergies, so it could possibly be drying all of you out! How many milligrams are you taking, and how many times a day. If it's causeing some discomfort try cutting the dose back! Good luck

Absolutely yes. Benadryl, or any allergy med OTC or RX causes the mucus in the body to thicken and dry up. This helps your nose stop running and eyes stop watering, but it also causes your cervical mucus to thicken and become dry.
