Boil the first time for several minutes to remove any residue from the manufacturing process, then you can just wash in dishwasher or hot water.

I sterilized when I first bought the bottles before used then up until my son was about 3-4 months old I sterilized after ever feeding after they were washed.
Now at 6 months, I sterilize once in a while maybe every 3 weeks or so.
EDIT:
Boiling is not the fastest way to sterilize. Avent sterilizer takes 2 minutes in microwave.
Do not use antibacterial soap on some bottles-read the label.

I boiled my sons bottles every night and did not use the same bottle twice until he was about 5-6 months old, even if you wash them REALLY good theres still a chance of there being dirty things on the bottle that you can't see and can cause illness or thrush mouth for the baby... boiling the bottles and nipples is the easiest cheapest way of sterilizing them that I know of

i only sterilized my kids bottles when they were brand new out of the pack and then after that just some hot soapy dishwater.
Most people don't relize that the second the bottle is put into the drying rack or is in the cupboard the bottle is getting germs on it anyway why why bother sterilizing them.
Most people also don't know that there BUGS in every cupboard whether you see them or not and those bugs put germs all over the place.
It is important for children even newborns to develope a natural immunity to germs. You wouldn't want your kids living in a glass bubble their whole lives being protected from germs would you?
The more germs they are exposed to the less likely it is that your children will get really sick.

I sterilize the one bottle that my son takes a week along with all of the plastic parts of my pump. I use the Avent microwave steam sterilizer as I found it at a consignment store for $5.00 and I love it. I see these on Craig's list for about the same price quite often.

I sterilized my bottles when I first bought them but after that I washed them in very hot water(to hot to even use until it cooled). I washed them after every use of course and then about 3 times week I put them in the dishwasher. Now sterilizing bottles everyday is not so common and not really necessary.

Depends on the type of bottles. If you are using the ones with the plastic tube inserts, then you do not need to sterilize the rest of the bottle. The insert (which is all the formula ever touches) is already sterilized. Wash the bottles, rings and nipples in the dishwasher and you are good.

I sterilize all my babies bottles before she has them!
You need to make sure for the first 6 months to a year that they are really clean and germ free as babies are prone to infections!

I sterilized them each day up until they were about six months old. Many things have changed, however. I've heard now that doctors say you no longer have to sterlize them as long as they are washed well, and that if you have a dishwasher, because of the heat, it serves the same purpose as sterlizing.

you sterilize them after each use but the easiest way to keep from boiling it every 3 hours is just use a different bottle for each feeding or use the playtex kind but to me the playtex dropins gives the baby way too much gas
